PETITION: Ban the sale of disposable face masks to the general public

If face mask wearing is mandatory throughout 2021 then the UK will send 19.2 billion single use face masks to landfill.

• 53m a day are sent to landfill
• This is 371 million a week
• Or 1.6 billion a month
• So, 6.3 billion will be binned in the 4 months to March
• This will weigh 20,000 tonnes in total
• In one year, we will use 19.2 billion which weighs as much as 5 1/2 Eiffel Towers

Please consider signing this Petition to ban the sale of single use, non-recyclable face masks to the general public – we fully support the use of masks, but believe reusable masks available for £1.40 from popular online sites are the most environmentally friendly solution:
